Using Association of College and Research Library Guidelines for Learning
Outcomes, Chuck and I developed a set of learning outcomes that we would seek to have the students master,
developed an assessment document, and then planned the instruction to meet the requirements of the assessment
and outcomes. As co-chair of the Learning-Centered College Task Force here at Aims, I followed this approach
because it met the requirements of the learning-centered philosophy.
Our presentation will go over this approach, having each department identify what it takes to be information
literate in that area, developing appropriate learning outcomes related to information literacy, and then
planning the assessment and instruction to test whether those outcomes had been reached.
