Higher Learning Commission
Remember, for accreditation visits, HLC consultant evaluators use five questions and others as appropriate to prompt conversations on student learning.
- How are the organization’s stated student learning outcomes appropriate to its mission, programs, and degrees?
- What evidence does the organization have that students achieve the stated learning outcomes?
- In what ways does the organization analyze and use evidence of student learning?
- How does the organization ensure shared responsibility for assessment of student learning?
- How does the organization evaluate and improve the effectiveness of its efforts to assess and improve student learning?
A few excellent community college websites:
- Cochise College communicates #1-3 above clearly at http://www.cochise.edu/deptsdirs/committees/assesscom/plans.asp. The format they use is very clear.
- Community College of Aurora has an a very good up to date site at http://www.ccaurora.edu/assessment/. It provides a variety of information on assessment. Click on the Departmental Plans link for great examples of learning outcomes, measures, and how we use the data to improve learning.
Note – if you think your Assessment Website is great, please let me know. We’ll add it! Contact greg.goode@ccaurora.edu.
