What changes have been made
in each of the following areas of assessment for the year 2005 – 2006?
1. Learning
Outcomes/Benchmarks
The learning outcomes identified in the 2004-2005 assessment
plans have changed for 2005-2006. What has changed is the class schedule of
when the courses are taught and when the outcomes are assessed. The 2005-2006 assessment
plans will move engines from the first semester to the second because basic
skill levels in tools, precision measuring and seals, bearings & gaskets
are not developed enough to turn students loose on high dollar engines.
Electrical / Electronics class was moved into the first semester but the scores
were disappointing. The Automotive Math and Electrical / electronics happen in
the same time period but electrical moves faster then the math. The students'
math skills contributed to lower then expected scores. Some electrical and math
labs were developed and will be adjusted for the 2006-2007 school year.
2. Measures of student learning (direct and
indirect)
The pre-tests were given during the last
few days of the 2004 fall semester. The Post-tests were given during the last
days of the 2005 spring semester. Each student scored significantly lower then
expected on the post-test because they realized the scores did not reflect on
the course they were in at the time of the post-test. This has been adjusted
for the 2005-2006 year and both pre and post will fall in the same semester. The
indirect measures involve Program Advisory Committee mock interviews for
2005-2006. The mock interview process did not take place last year do to the
disbanding of (CTEC) Colorado Technical Education Collation. We now have an
advisory committee that will conduct the interviews spring 2006.
3. Data Collection
I have used Excel spread sheets to calculate the data in the
past which work just fine. I have to develop an OJT on-the-job evaluation sheet
for the shop managers when the students are in their work rotation. I also have
to develop a mock interview score sheet.
4. Data Recording and Storage
Data is still stored on the ETT office computer and is
backed up by floppy disc.
5. Data Analysis and Reporting
Data Analysis and reporting is done by me, I am the dept.
chair and instructor. The Division Dean and Wagner Training Institute are also
involved in the process.
6. Decision Making and Program Changes Based on
Data
1. Moving the
engine block to second semester to give the student time to practice basic
mechanical skills.
2. Moving
Electrical/Electronics the start after Automotive Math because of low math
skill in the electrical block.
3. Develop evaluation
form for shop mangers during OJT months.
7. Adjunct Faculty Involvement
There no adjunct
faculty at this time.
