Assessment Committee
The Assessment of Student Learning Committee is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, education, structure and support to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning life-long skills at CCA. The committee is charged with insuring that the college is meeting its responsibility to students, the community and other stakeholders for the quality of student outcomes. The committee is also responsible for insuring that the assessment process meets the requirements of accrediting institutions. The committee coordinates with administration, student services and other departments throughout the college. The committee is responsible to the Academic Planning Council and the Vice President of Instruction.
Responsibilities
- Manage the annual Assessment Cycle for Program Assessment Plans and Across the Curriculum Assessment Plans.
- Insure that stated student learning outcomes are appropriate to its mission, programs and degrees.
- Evaluate assessment plans and reports and provide feedback and recommendations to Assessment Plans
- Manage and build the Assessment Across the Curriculum program
- Prepare an annual report for internal and external constituents
- Provide assessment training for faculty and staff.
- Include internal and external stakeholders in assessment planning and communication of results
- Educate students on the importance of life-long skills and assessment through the student assessment fair and other means
- Maintain Assessment website
- Insure that CCA’s assessment efforts meet accreditation standards
- Work towards national prominence in Assessment
- Develop and refine the charter for the committee
Membership 2007-2008
The Assessment Committee has almost all new members this year. We try to rotate the membership every two – three years. Meetings are held twice each month on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 3:30 – 4:30 pm. It has representation from most areas of the college. The membership for FY08 is:

Assessment Committee Accomplishments 2006-2007
- The promotion of assessment continued to improve with students via two Assessment Fairs, adding
Lifelong Skill signage in every classroom, and increased visibility of lifelong skill information in faculty
syllabus.
- Clarified and simplified the assessment process through creation of a new assessment template.
- Increased professional development assessment activities including: HLC assessment in July of 2006, assessment retreat in October, 2006, Faculty In-Service program in November, 2006, and faculty training for across curriculum leaders in April, 2007. Adjunct faculty were included in the training.
- Started implementation of Institutional Assessment through development of Across the Curriculum
Assessment Planning.
- Faculty teams created rubrics for lifelong skill grading consistency. The rubrics were
implemented and used during the year.
- Created the first annual report for 2006-2007 documenting and summarizing assessment activity
college wide.
- Improve the technical quality of assessment through the addition of a new Institutional Research position.
