These 30-hour workshops will introduce teachers to four, cutting edge DNA labs. Lab topics include DNA isolation, bacterial transformation, restriction enzyme digestion and gel electrophoresis, and PCR (polymerase chain reaction.
Teachers who complete the workshop are eligible for graduate credit from the University of Colorado Denver and Health Sciences Center.
These interactive workshops will include enough theoretical background information and hands-on experience to enable teachers to effectively present the topics to students in their classes. The workshops will also incorporate presentations by industry speakers, a field trip to local research labs and time to network with other teachers. Lab kits will be supplied with funding provided by the WIRED grant.
