Statement of Standards for Concurrent Enrollment
-
Standards given in the CCCS Statement of Standards, Concurrent Enrollment shall be adhered to for all courses. (See http://www.cccs.edu/Docs/EdServices/CCCSStatementofStandards.pdf.)
FACULTY
-
Concurrent enrollment faculty shall meet the same qualifications as campus-based faculty.
-
The department chair shall evaluate transcripts and degrees of potential concurrent enrollment faculty for General Education (GE) or Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes on a case-by-case basis.
-
GE concurrent enrollment faculty shall have a content area master’s degree or a master’s degree and at least 18 graduate credits in the content area.
-
CTE concurrent enrollment faculty shall have a secondary CTE credential in the content area, if applicable. This credential will need to be submitted to the college so that the instructor can be issued a postsecondary credential. The instructor’s resume must demonstrate college-level expertise in the content area.

The department chair will make a recommendation to the Vice President of Instruction regarding the acceptability of concurrent enrollment faculty.

The Vice President of Instruction shall review the recommendation made by the department chair and make a final decision as to whether or not the faculty member is qualified to teach at the college level.

Concurrent enrollment faculty must fill out an employment packet with Human Resources.
-
Concurrent enrollment faculty credentials will be kept on file with the college Human Resources Department.

Concurrent enrollment faculty must sign an Adjunct Faculty Job Description.

The instructor will have a CCA S number and e-mail address.

Should a potential faculty member be identified by the participating high school to teach a concurrent enrollment course, that faculty member’s qualifications must be reviewed and evaluated by the appropriate CCA department chair. Participating high schools must inform the college of any teaching assignment changes for courses being offered for concurrent enrollment.

DURING THE COURSE
-
Concurrent enrollment faculty shall be treated like all other CCA adjunct faculty.
-
Concurrent enrollment faculty shall sign an Adjunct Faculty Job Description and comply with all duties and responsibilities listed in the document.

Understand and uphold the values and mission of the college.
-
Teach assigned classes, promote program(s), and advise students in accordance with CCA’s policies and mission.
-
At the first class meeting, provide and review with students: course syllabus, CCA Lifelong Skills, and course attendance and grading policies.
-
By the first class meeting day, email the division administrative assistant a copy of the course syllabus and post the syllabus on each section’s Blackboard/Desire 2 Learn course shell.*
-
Adjunct faculty are required to check their CCA email account on a weekly basis and respond promptly to messages.
-
Ensure the instruction in the course and the evaluation of student performance are in accordance with the student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.
-
Participate in the CCA assessment program as requested by your Chair or Assessment Coordinator.
-
Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures.
-
Submit all grades by the appropriate deadline.
-
Maintain accurate records of attendance and student grading; promptly enter grades into Blackboard/Desire 2 Learn throughout the semester.* Enter final grades in Banner, and submit a copy of final grade records and semester attendance records to the division administrative assistant according to published deadlines and CCA policy.

Attend, as frequently as possible, paid departmental/division/instruction wide meetings as called by the Department Chair, Dean, or Vice President of Instruction, particularly the Fall/Spring General Faculty meetings, which occurs prior to the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters.

CURRICULUM
-
Concurrent enrollment courses must be approved Colorado Common Course Numbering System (CCCNS) courses.
-
The CCA course must apply to a degree or certificate that CCA offers.
-
Concurrent enrollment courses will have the same department designations, numbers, titles, credits, course descriptions, competencies, and topical outlines as campus-based courses.
-
The syllabus for each course will be reviewed and approved by the department chair as well as a content-area specialist, a CCA faculty member who teaches the same course on campus.
-
The syllabus must be at least an 80% match with CCCNS syllabus.
-
The syllabus for each course will be kept on file by the department for as long as it is offered for concurrent enrollment.
-
The current academic year syllabus will be obtained, reviewed and kept on hand for each year the course is offered for dual credit.
-
If the syllabus is modified in any way, it must undergo review before the course can continue to be offered for concurrent enrollment.

The syllabus must include all of the components required by CCA: course title, course description, prerequisites, accessibility services availability, CCA assessment information, specific course outcomes, course outline, course objectives, and evaluation procedures.

Textbooks and instructional materials used in concurrent enrollment courses will be reviewed by the department chair and/or content-area specialist, and a determination made as to their appropriateness for college-level course work.

Textbooks and instructional materials used for each course will be kept on file by the department for as long as the course is offered for concurrent enrollment.

Textbooks and instructional materials that are found to be below college level will be rejected for use. The participating school shall be informed that it must use different materials if it wishes to offer the course for concurrent enrollment.

Textbook and instructional materials kept on file will be updated each academic year that the course is offered for dual credit.
-
Laboratory, studio, and technology facilities will be evaluated by a content-area specialist for suitability for college-level course work.
-
A content-area specialist shall visit the high school facilities at least once per year.
-
The content-area specialist shall file a statement of facilities acceptability with the department for each course to be offered for concurrent enrollment.
-
Laboratory, studio, and technology equipment available in the facilities shall be evaluated to determine if what is available is sufficient and meets the standards for a college-level course.

Course materials, including exams, papers, labs, practice sets, research papers and other assignments, shall be at the same level, rigor, relevance, and depth as those for campus-based courses.

Sample exams and assignments shall be reviewed by a content-area specialist to determine if they meet the criteria listed above.

Sample exams and assignments for each course will be kept on file by the department.

Samples of student work will be examined to determine the appropriateness for college credit.

Contact hours must be sufficient for the course.
-
Participate in adjunct faculty development activities as recommended by CCA’s Professional Development Plan. NOTE: Adjunct faculty must complete the “New Adjunct Faculty Orientation” course during their first year of instruction at CCA.

*Adjunct faculty teaching at high schools shall be exempt from putting information and grades on CCA’s Blackboard/Desire 2 Learn Concurrent enrollment faculty shall inform the department chair of any potential changes to the course during the semester to ensure that the course will still be in alignment with the CCNS course.

New faculty members are assigned a mentor, an experienced faculty member, during their first year with CCA. The mentor helps the new faculty member acclimate and assimilate to CCA. The mentor may visit a class and offer suggestions and support to the new faculty member.

Department chairs or their designees perform classroom observations of all adjunct faculty annually. Concurrent enrollment faculty will participate in this evaluation process.
Note: Concurrent enrollment and dual credit are terms used for the same situation, high school students taking classes at their high school and receiving college credit for the class.
What are the requirements for my class?
STUDENTS

Students must fill out a CCA application and all required CCA paperwork to be registered for the course.

Students must meet all the required prerequisites for the course.

All students under 20 must have test scores on file; students without must take the Accuplacer.

Step 2: Fill out CCA Employment packet (see link below)

Step 3: Email or fax (303.340.7228) CCA Employment Packet and copies of UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS.

Step 4: After your paper work is reviewed, a meeting will be set up with the department chair to go over the employment packet and your transcripts in person.

The consequences of dropping out of a college class depends heavily upon how
far into the semester the drop takes place. Consequences can range from a
complete refund to an F on the transcript, based on whether it is before the
