Research Analyst for the Office of Institutional Research

Reports To: Executive Director, Grants and Planning
Located in the beautiful Rocky Mountain Region, the Community College of Aurora is looking for a person who can play a key role in gathering and providing necessary information to assist in making important decisions pertaining to college-wide planning and growth. Competitive candidates will be creative and energetic and demonstrate a passion for student success. They will be able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines and pay close attention to detail while maintaining quality services and the integrity of the college. The Research Analyst will work with the Director of Institutional Research to strengthen the College’s institutional research capacity. This includes such tasks as surveys and reporting for internal and external constituencies, research studies, assessment of student learning, evaluation of instruction, and responding to scheduled and ad hoc requests for data. He/she will work closely with faculty and staff to develop tracking and analysis tools to help improve student learning and the performance of various college units. The Analyst will train faculty and staff to use the queries, reports, and database analyses he/she developed.
In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the individual must possess the ability to effectively communicate, concentrate, analyze data, pay attention to detail, retain learned knowledge, instruct/teach, and demonstrate strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist the Director in meeting the College’s obligations for external and internal reports and surveys;

Identify College- and unit-level data and research needs through collaboration with faculty and staff;

Collaborate with faculty, departmental chairs, and directors to determine the information needs to be developed, the priorities to be assigned to projects, and the best operating formats;

Collaborate with the Director of Research to design and conduct research studies and surveys;

Write and edit programs for data extraction from the Colorado Community College System’s data warehouse, for archiving the data, and for analyzing the data;

Assist in the environmental scanning process and the collection and summarizing of existing data to support new program initiatives (including workforce development).

Work with faculty groups to advise and assist programs with techniques and methods for data gathering, data storage, analysis, and interpretation of their results.

Develop the documentation needed to train faculty and staff to use queries, reports, and analyses; and

Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
Highly Desirable Qualifications:
-
Graduate coursework in research design and methods, research analysis, and statistical methods;

Work experience in higher education;
-
Experience with student records databases;
-
Demonstrated ability to become proficient in COGNOS and the current data warehouse structure;

Understanding of database management procedures;

Demonstrated competency in SPSS and/or MS Access;

Experience designing, administering, and analyzing surveys;
-
Evidence of attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines;

Excellent written and oral communication skills;
-
Demonstrated ability to present and interpret research findings to non-technical audiences;
-
Flexibility to work at both the CentreTech and Lowry campuses and occasional evenings or weekends.
Contract Specifics & Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with education and experience and in accordance with the 2009-2010 Administrative Salary Schedule. Beginning salary is mid to high40s.
