Instructor – College Preparatory English as a Second Language (ESL)

POSITION TITLE: Instructor (Part-time) – College Preparatory ESL

REPORTS TO: Department Chair

SUPERVISES: No supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Provide instruction in assigned classes according to established course model syllabus.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Uphold the values of the college.
  2. Teach assigned classes in keeping with community college philosophy.
  3. Abide by all relevant college and CCCS and SBCCOE policies and procedures.
  4. At the first class meeting, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the course master syllabus.
  5. By the end of the first week of class, provide the division with a copy of the course syllabus.
  6. Evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.
  7. Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  8. Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students and submit required records according to published deadlines.
  9. Attend departmental/divisional/instruction-wide meetings as called by the Department Chair, Dean or Vice President for Instruction.
  10. Participate in faculty development activities as required; adjunct instructors must complete "New Faculty Orientation" during their first year.

Required Qualifications: A Minimum of a Master’s Degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or equivalent.  We have daytime, evening, and Saturday classes.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience at the college level is preferred.

Current Salary Rate: $592.00 per credit hour plus additional pay for laboratory hours
