Full-Time, 12 Month Limited Faculty – Interim Director/Faculty Member of Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
POSITION TITLE: Interim Director/Faculty Member of Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
REPORTS TO: Dean of CTE, Business, Computers and Science
SUPERVISES: Supervises staff members associated with the EMS department
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
THE POSITION: The Interim Director/Faculty Member provides leadership and management for the Emergency Medical Services Program. The EMS program at the Community College of Aurora serves a diverse population ranging from entry level candidates to fulltime incumbent EMS professionals. The program is also known for pioneering simulation based education within the EMS industry. Emphasis in this position is placed upon the overall management of the department including supervision of adjunct faculty, program development and evaluation, and budget within the department. The Director/Faculty Member works collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines and across the college, participates in advising, committee assignments, and other academic and institutional support activities. The Director/Faculty Member will also work on nurturing productive relationships in the business, industry, and governmental communities that support the program and create job opportunities for students. The Faculty Member teaches a reduced class load according to established guidelines and policies. The successful candidate for the position will be a creative academic leader with a sense of humor who works well in a collaborative, participative environment.
Director Duties And Responsibilities: Provide leadership and management for the EMS department; pursue innovative teaching practices with a multicultural, international perspective; develop innovative instructional programs that address EMS related initiatives; develop partnerships with business, community partners, and employers to solicit their input and assistance in creating educational and workforce opportunities; collaborate with the college’s high school recruitment and enrollment operations to foster new student enrollment in the EMS programs; pursue alternative sources of funding through grants and contributions; maintain professional and productive relationship with program medical director; actively participate in appropriate state EMS committees; coordinate with the Director of Communications to develop promotional and informational materials; recruit, evaluate and supervise part-time faculty; maintain CoAEMSP and State program accreditation; insure program compliance with all state and national requirements for EMS training institutions.
Faculty Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement curriculum for classes and programs that meet student and community needs; maintain accurate and timely records of student performance in classes; advise students; contribute to the processes of instructional planning, budgeting, assessment and curriculum review; pursue continued professional improvement both in subject matter and instructional methods; create or renew high school, community college and baccalaureate articulation agreements; support student activities; serve on committees; participate in in-service programs and professional development activities; attend meetings called by the President, Vice president of Instruction and/or Dean of CTE, Science, and Business; assist the Dean of CTE, Science, and Business and/or Vice President of Instruction with other activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related or applicable field
Demonstrated skills in management/leadership and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
10 years of EMS experience
3 years experience as a primary instructor in EMS
Two years Community College teaching experience
Experience in a multi-cultural environment
Interest/experience in globalizing the curriculum and/or international experience
Ph.D. in a related field
Ability to be certified in the state of Colorado as a paramedic or related healthcare professional
Complete/completed all current levels of the State EMS Instructor Course
Excellent computer program skills, to include Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, & Outlook
Thorough knowledge of national standard curriculum at all levels
Thorough knowledge of state rules and regulations regarding EMS education
Thorough knowledge of National Registry requirements
Contract Specifics & Salary Range: Twelve-month regular faculty appointment. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and in accordance with the 2008-2009 Administrative Salary Schedule. Salary range is low $40s to high $50s per year. CCA offers a competitive fringe benefit program including health, dental and life insurance. Leave benefits and holidays are also included.
