Regular 9-Month Faculty Math

POSITION TITLE:      Regular Faculty – Math (Position #30020)

REPORTS TO:             Chair of Math Department

SUPERVISES:              May be assigned supervisory responsibilities.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:  Teach assigned classes in accord with established guidelines and policies, participate in advising, committee assignments, and other academic and institutional support activities and supervisory responsibilities as assigned.  The holder of this position reports to the Chair of Math.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

WORKLOAD

         Regular 9-Month faculty members at the Community College of Aurora are assigned 166 work days, per semester.

o       These days are composed of both class and non-class days.

o       Non-class days encompass activities such as registration and advising, staff development, orientation, planning and other assignments as determined by the Vice President of Instruction, Dean or Chair.

         The teaching and office assignments of each faculty member will include a five-day-per-week assignment at the college.  Other activities may include evening and weekend assignments.

         The basic workweek for regular faculty is 40 hours, to include assigned teaching and office hours of not less than 30 hours per week.  The remaining 10 hours may be fulfilled in unscheduled hours consistent with instructional responsibilities. Each faculty member must post a department-approved schedule of hours.  Faculty will maintain a minimum of 10-15 regular office hours each week as approved by the Chair.

         The teaching assignment for a regular faculty member shall be in the range of 15-17 credit hours each semester. 

Faculty teaching assignments (including courses, times and location) are made by the Department Chair after consultation with the Dean. 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

         Teach all assigned classes.  Maintain and update syllabi for all courses included in the teaching assignments.  These documents must be filed each semester with the Chair.

         Maintain accurate records of student performance in classes.

         Turn in rosters and grades at the appropriate time.

         Contribute to the processes of instructional planning, budgeting, assessment and curriculum review.

         Pursue continued professional improvement both in subject matter and instructional methods.

INSTITUTIONAL SERVICES:

        Institutional service responsibilities may include:

§         Assisting in hiring part-time faculty.

 

§         Classroom observation and mentoring.

 

§         Assisting in course/class scheduling.

 

§         Assisting the Chair with the evaluation and supervision of part-time faculty.

 

§         Supporting student activities.

 

§         Serving on committees.

 

§         Participating in in-service programs and professional development activities.

 

§         Attending meetings called by the President, Vice President of Instruction, Dean and Department Chair. 

 

§         Assisting the Chair, Dean or Vice President of Instruction with other activities as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

§          Graduate degree in math, or a graduate degree in a related field plus 18 hours of graduate-level math course work.

§          Experience in post-secondary teaching of math.

§          Interpersonal skills supporting effective collegial efforts within both Dev Ed and CCA’s broader community of faculty and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

§          Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field.

§          Two years community college teaching experience.

§          Experience teaching both developmental math courses and college level math courses (including College Algebra, Trigonometry, Introduction to Statistics, and Calculus I, II, and III).

§          Demonstrated experience with faculty development.

§          Experience in a multi-cultural environment.

§          Demonstrated interest in cross-discipline activities.

§          Demonstrated leadership and entrepreneurial skill.

CONTRACT SPECIFICS & SALARY RANGE: Position is a regular 9-month faculty contract.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience; the salary range is high $30s to mid $40s per year.  CCA offers a competitive fringe benefit program including health, dental and life insurance.  Leave benefits and holidays are also included.  The availability of this position is contingent on funding.
