Full-Time Regular Contract for 2008 - 2009 - English

POSITION TITLE:        Nine-Month Regular Contract – English

REPORTS TO:             Chair of Communication

SUPERVISES:              May be assigned supervisory responsibilities

The Position: This position is focused on composition with a process-oriented approach. The successful candidate will have experience with and interest in teaching both Developmental and College-level composition courses. The Faculty Member will work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines and across the college, participate in advising and committee assignments, and perform other academic and institutional support activities as needed.  The Community College of Aurora serves a very diverse community, and the successful candidate will be comfortable with and energized by the varied demographics represented within our classes.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Faculty Responsibilities: Maintain and update syllabi for all courses included in the teaching assignment and submit these documents each semester; maintain accurate records of student performance in classes; contribute to the processes of instructional planning, budgeting, assessment and curriculum review; develop new course designs that explore the possibility of paired classes and/or online instruction; pursue continued professional development both in subject matter and instructional methods with an emphasis on opportunities related to Developmental Education and the connection between reading and writing.

Institutional Service Responsibilities:  Participate in Composition Assessment Committee; assist the Chair with the recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of part-time faculty; and assist the Chair with class scheduling and text book evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Contract Specifics & Salary Range: Nine-month regular faculty appointment.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience and in accordance with the 2008-2009 Administrative Salary Schedule.  Salary range is $38,500 to $50,000 per year.  CCA offers a competitive fringe benefit program including health, dental and life insurance.  Leave benefits and holidays are also included.  For information on benefits associated with this position, visit http://www.cccs.edu/HR/Admin.html.

Anticipated Start Date:  The successful candidate will begin work on August 18, 2008.
