Faculty Appointment for 2008-2009 Academic Year – Mathematics

POSITION TITLE:      Nine-Month Regular Faculty Appointment – Mathematics

REPORTS TO:             Department Chair of Mathematics

SUPERVISES:              May be assigned supervisory responsibilities

The Position: The Mathematics department at the Community College of Aurora has put a great deal of emphasis towards finding creative and effective ways of engaging students in the classroom and online.  The faculty member will be responsible for taking a leadership role in continuing to develop this emphasis, and thus must have the knowledge and experience of the best practices in teaching with technology, including online teaching.  The faculty member will also be responsible for taking a leadership role in the math department’s self assessment.  This includes the collection and analysis of data that measures the math skills of our students, as well as making decisions about appropriate changes based on that analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities: Provide leadership in developing practices to engage students in technology enhanced courses, both in online classes and traditional classes that take advantage of technology based resources; provide leadership with the collection and analysis of data to measure the achievement of math skills as part of the Community College of Aurora’s self-assessment; maintain accurate and timely records of student performance in classes; infuse curriculum with technology; actively engage students in the learning process; advise students; contribute to the processes of instructional planning, assessment and curriculum review; pursue continued professional development both in subject matter and instructional methods; support student activities; serve on committees and attend meetings as required; other activities as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Graduate degree in Mathematics, or a graduate degree plus 18 hours of graduate level Mathematics coursework.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in post-secondary teaching of math, particularly both developmental math courses and college level math (including College Algebra, Trigonometry, Intro to Statistics, and Calculus I, II, and III); two years Community College experience teaching of math; experience in a multi-cultural environment; demonstrated experience with faculty development; demonstrated interest in cross-discipline activities; demonstrated leadership and entrepreneurial skill; Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field; interpersonal skills supporting effective collegial efforts within both the math department and within CCA’s broader community of faculty and staff.

Contract Specifics & Salary Range: Nine-month regular faculty appointment.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience and in accordance with the 2008-2009 Administrative Salary Schedule.  Salary range is $38,500 to $50,000 per year.  CCA offers a competitive fringe benefit program including health, dental and life insurance.  Leave benefits and holidays are also included.  For information on benefits associated with this position, visit http://www.cccs.edu/HR/Admin.html.

Anticipated Start Date:  The successful candidate will begin work on August 18, 2008.
