Full-Time Regular Contract for 2008 - 2009 - Psychology

POSITION TITLE:      Regular Contract – Psychology

REPORTS TO:             Chair of Social Sciences

SUPERVISES:              May be assigned supervisory responsibilities

The Position: The successful candidate will promote innovative teaching and learning, incorporating a multidisciplinary approach. The Faculty Member will apply an international approach to curriculum development.  The Faculty Member works collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines and across the college, and participates in advising, committee assignments, and other academic and institutional support activities.  We need a creative leader with the energy and skills to carry out new instructional initiatives for Psychology, including relationships with baccalaureate-granting institutions to foster transfer and degree completion.  The successful candidate for the position will be a dynamic academic leader with a sense of humor who works well in a collaborative, participative environment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Faculty Responsibilities: Develop and implement curriculum for classes and programs that meet student and community needs; maintain accurate and timely records of student performance in classes; infuse curriculum with technology; actively engage students in the learning process; advise students; contribute to the processes of instructional planning, assessment and curriculum review; pursue continued professional development both in subject matter and instructional methods; participating in in-service programs and professional development activities; support student activities; serve on committees; attend meetings called by the President, Vice-President of Instruction, Dean of Liberal Arts, and Department Chair; assist the Chair, Dean or Vice President of Instruction with other activities as assigned.

Institutional Service Responsibilities:  May include developing and coordinating community outreach programs and alternative course formats; Psychology Club Advisor; developing partnerships with businesses and/or agencies in the community; developing new CCA programs; assisting the Chair with the evaluation and supervision of part-time faculty; helping the Chair of Social Sciences recruit, evaluate and supervise part-time faculty.

Required Qualifications:

§          Graduate degree in Psychology, or a graduate degree plus 18 hours of graduate level Psychology coursework.
§         
Teaching experience at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications:

§          Two years Community College experience teaching Psychology.
§         
Experience in a multi-cultural environment.
§         
Ph.D. in Psychology
§         
Lifespan/Gender/Human Growth and Development/Sexuality/Child Psychology teaching experience.

Contract Specifics & Salary Range: Nine-month regular faculty appointment.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience and in accordance with the 2008-2009 Administrative Salary Schedule.  Salary range is $38,500 to $50,000 per year.  CCA offers a competitive fringe benefit program including health, dental and life insurance.  Leave benefits and holidays are also included.  For information on benefits associated with this position, visit http://www.cccs.edu/HR/Admin.html.

Anticipated Start Date:  The successful candidate will begin work on August 18, 2008.
