The Position: Located near the beautiful Rocky Mountain of the front range of Colorado, the Community College of Aurora resides in one of the fastest growing suburbs of the Denver metropolitan area. The college is a progressive, dynamic, culturally diverse institution experiencing rapid growth, but with a strong commitment to high quality education and student success. The Community College of Aurora is looking for someone to serve as the Associate Director of Development. In coordination with the CCAF Executive Director, the individual hired will develop, coordinate and administer activities and special events designed to cultivate both the internal and external communities, with specific emphasis on donor relations and development for major gifts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Development:
Donor Cultivation, Solicitation and Stewardship:
- Help develop and implement annual fundraising plans, budgets and cash flow projections for major gifts program
- Participate in identification, cultivation and solicitation of scholarship donors in person, over the phone and in writing.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to drive organizational expansion, and long-range funding strategies around major gift program.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date files, records and systems.
- Increase donor commitment and participation through regular and sophisticated communication.
Management of Scholarship Program:
- Review, monitor and revise plan to ensure that every Foundation scholarship is awarded on an annual basis.
- Oversee monitoring program for every Foundation scholarship which will on an annual basis:
- Ensure that there is availability of funds in each scholarship account for award and communicate the amount available for award to FA office
- Set up appropriate support mechanisms, where required, for scholarship recipients and coordinate with appropriate college personnel regarding monitoring of recipient progress
- Prepare appropriate progress and/or other reports in a timely fashion to scholarship donors for review and signature of Executive Director
- Schedule one-on-one meetings with all scholarship donors to be attended by Associate Director of Development and Executive Director
- Respond to inquiries from scholarship donors
- Work with Executive Director to determine appropriate reporting mechanism to Foundation board that will assist in sound business decision making
- Develop plan to increase visibility of scholarship program through working with college personnel and Executive Director
- Develop plan to ensure solid working relationship with scholarship recipients
Overall Administration:
- Represent the Foundation at both on and off campus events
- Meet with Executive Director bi-monthly to review activities and related issues
- Develop and maintain a record (name and number of attendees, volunteer committees, event goal(s), etc.) of all activities for inclusion in the Foundation newsletter and annual report
- Hire, train and supervise work study students, when appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the individual must possess the ability to effectively lead, communicate, concentrate, analyze data, pay attention to detail, retain learned knowledge, instruct/teach demonstrate strong organizational skills and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications: (In order to move forward in the search process, candidates must demonstrate that they meet the following requirements):
- Bachelor’s Degree, previous work experience may be substituted for degree.
- Minimum three years experience managing a scholarship or similar program.
- Minimum three years experience in a fundraising position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in an educational setting
Highly Desirable Qualifications: While no one person will embody all of the qualities enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:
- A self-starting and energetic individual who has the ability to elicit the respect and trust of staff and external partners. A professional with a proven track record of successfully managing multiple priorities; or an up and comer with innate sense of good management and direct experience doing comparable work preferably in a professional organization serving urban, multi-cultural constituents.
- A highly professional demeanor, able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, students, board members, and volunteers.
- Strong oral and written communications skills, used in one-on-one settings and in large group meetings. The ability to set the tone for an organizational culture that combines respectful collaboration with disciplined productivity within a business-like and process-sensitive environment.
- Experience working with a volunteer-driven organization, leveraging staff, external partners, and board talents and time. Familiarity with boards of directors’ and funders’ expectations of timely and accurate responsiveness.
- High levels of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion, and humor necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit.
- Must demonstrate the ability to solve problems and to think strategically and tactically about opportunities both for donor stewardship and fundraising, balance competing priorities, and work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Able to work with minimal supervision, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, CS4 and SCT Banner.
Salary: This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. Salary placement will be in the high $30s to $45,000.00. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan.
