Computer Science - Adjunct Instructor (multiple openings)

POSITION TITLE:    Adjunct Instructor (Part-time – Multiple Openings) – Computer Science

REPORTS TO:  Department Chair

SUPERVISES:  No supervisory responsibilities are associated with this position

BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Community College of Aurora is looking for innovative faculty to teach classes and encourage the success of all students, while maintaining the educational standards set forth by the department. We are currently recruiting for Adjunct faculty to teach PC Applications courses. Adjunct Faculty in this position will provide instruction in assigned classes according to an established course model. They will teach assigned classes in keeping with community college philosophy, while upholding the values of CCA, and abiding by all relevant college, CCCS, and SBCCOE policies and procedures. Instructors will be expected to provide quality teaching, and attend departmental/divisional/ instruction-wide meetings and required faculty development activities, such as New Faculty Orientation.  In addition, the instructor will evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus, maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students, and submit required records according to published deadlines, as well as conduct student evaluations of instruction as required by the college.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applicants must have at least one or more certifications to apply
  • Cisco Academy: CCNA and Academy Certified Instructor
  • Security Courses: CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification
  • Computer Repair and Maintenance: CompTIA A+ or equivalent certification
  • Computer Networking: CompTIA Network+ or equivalent certification
  • Linux / UNIX: CompTIA Linux+ or equivalent certification
  • System Design and Management Information Systems:Relevant experience
  • Uphold the values of the college
  • Teach assigned classes in keeping with community college philosophy.
  • Abide by all relevant college and CCCS and SBCCOE policies and procedures.
  • At the first class meeting, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the course master syllabus.
  • Before the first class meeting, according to published deadlines, provide the department with a copy of the course syllabus
  • Evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus
  • Utilize Desire2Learn (D2L) for all courses related to materials, including by not limited to attendance records, course documentation and gradebook.
  • Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students and submit required records according to published deadlines
  • Attend departmental/divisional/instruction-wide meetings as called by the Department Chair, Dean or Vice President for Instruction
  • Participate in faculty development activities as required; adjunct instructors must complete “New Faculty Orientation” during their first year.

Required Qualifications: (In order to advance in this search process, your resume must demonstrate that you meet all of the following required qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related field
  • Must be able to teach day and/or evening classes at the campus
  • Online teaching experience if teaching online
  • 5 years of documented relevant industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Business or related field
  • Individuals with certifications such as MCSE, MCP, CNE, CCNA, CCNP, Network+ and Linux+ are preferred.

Current Salary Rate:    Instructional hours will be paid at the current adjunct rate. Site training and coordination will be paid on a contract basis.  Please note that relocation expenses will not be paid.
