The Position: Located near the beautiful Rocky Mountains of the front range of Colorado, the Community College of Aurora resides in one of the fastest growing suburbs of the Denver metropolitan area. The college is a progressive, dynamic, culturally diverse institution experiencing rapid growth, but with a strong commitment to high quality education and student success. The Community College of Aurora is looking for someone to fill the role of Health Sciences Retention/Advising Specialist. The successful candidate will have a passion for continued learning and student success.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to the Health Science Associate Dean, Health Science and Pathway faculty, and other division personnel. This requires maintaining multiple calendars, scheduling meetings, making copies, providing classroom support, and all other standard administrative support duties.
- Program promotion through interface with applicants/potential applicants
- Manage application process: transcript analysis, GPA calculation, tracking & processing application materials, scheduling writing exercises, personal interviews with the team, coordination with CU College of Nursing faculty & personnel
- Provide ongoing advising support for students enrolled in Health Science Programs, requiring individualized advising abilities.
- Provide general information sessions and other advising activities, working collaboratively with CCA and partner college advisors.
- Assist with individual student academic progression decisions
- Manage cohort course registration
- Set up and manage program orientations in collaboration with academic partners
- Support grant, publication and program/student funding efforts
- Assist with development & implementation of CCA Student Tracking System
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in health care, nursing, education, counseling or related field
- Demonstrated experience in advising and working with students
- Demonstrated experience in handling multiple projects and decision making.
- Demonstrated Administrative Assistant experience with providing support to several individuals, ability to manage multiple tasks, and examples of organizational skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills with demonstrated sensitivity to the protection of privacy for all individuals involved
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in nursing
- Respectful, efficient management of interface with clinical partners, actual and potential academic partners
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing demands from students, potential students, and CCA and partner personnel
- Experience with health care programs
- Academic advising experience in a college setting
