Register for the January 17, 2009, Aurora Invitational Bridge Building Breakup Bowl.

The 2009 Aurora Invitational Bridge Building Breakup Bowl is a new level of competition being added to the statewide Colorado High School Model Bridge Building Contest run by the Professional Engineers of Colorado (PEC) and now in its 42nd year.   This new level of competition will give Aurora area high school students more opportunities to become involved, have a good time while learning about engineering careers, and compete for prizes recognizing their achievements.

The 2009 Aurora Invitational Bridge Building Breakup Bowl will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at the Centre Tech Campus of the Community College of Aurora (CCA).   Model bridges made for the Aurora Invitational must conform to the same specifications and follow the same rules as published for the statewide 2009 Colorado High School Model Bridge Building Contest.   Clicking on the following link will take you to the PEC Bridge Building Contest Rules which include the Contest Specifications:

Models will be ranked by their efficiencies with Efficiency E = Load supported in grams/Mass of bridge in grams.   At the January Bowl, the Aurora Invitational will award trophies to the three individual contestants with the highest efficiencies for their models and to the three schools with the highest sums of efficiencies of all model bridges submitted from that school.   In addition to trophies there will be prizes for the top three individuals:  $150 for 1st Place, a TI graphing calculator for 2nd Place and CCA athletic wear for 3rd Place.   A special Judges’ Award of Merit will be given to an individual competitor irrespective of actual model testing efficiency.   All competitors will receive official certificates of participation, pictures with their model bridges on the testing rig and a Bridges 2009 Calendar published by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

The Aurora Invitational is intended primarily for students in the high schools typically considered to be in the CCA service area.   These are all Aurora Public School high schools, all Cherry Creek School District high schools within Aurora, Denver Public School’s Montbello High School and Martin Luther King, Jr., Early College High School, and any home-schooled students 14 through 18 years of age within the area.   Others are welcome to participate and are asked to contact Rich Bogdanovich, PE, at 303-340-7519 or Rich.Bogdanovich@ccaurora.edu before registering.
