Richard Italiano, Music Department Coordinator at the Community College of Aurora, combines administrative duties with teaching piano, composition, music theory, and music appreciation.  He received his Bachelor of Music in Piano from the University of Northern Colorado and Master of Music in Piano from the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University.  In addition, he was a student at the Aspen School of Music.  His major teachers include Kathleen Joiner, Daniel Graham, Lillian Freundlich, and Allen Hobbs.

 

He began teaching at the Community College of Aurora in 1989, became a Resident Instructor in 1994 and Music Department Coordinator in 1997.  In 2004-2005, he was named Faculty of the Year.  In Fall 2005 he composed music for the theater department’s production of Antigone and gave presentations on the aesthetics of music.  As well, he has performed as piano soloist and chamber musician for faculty recitals and other events on campus through the years.

Jacky Canton, flute instructor at CCA, has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University, where she graduated with honors. After college, she continued her flute studies with Paul Hockstad, performed in the Geoffrey Gilbert, and Julius Baker master classes, and studied with David Shostac at the Aspen Music School.

After moving to Denver from Fort Collins, she co-founded the Colorado Wind Ensemble, which featured collaborations with many other Colorado music groups. She was also a member of the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra. She coordinated the recital series for both of these groups. Jacky especially enjoys chamber music, and has performed with a variety of small ensembles for special events throughout Colorado. She has provided incidental music for several of CCA’s Theater Department productions. In addition to teaching at CCA, she also has a private flute studio.

Stacy Fahrion is a native of Dubuque, Iowa. She graduated with highest honors from the University of Northern Iowa, where she was the recipient of The Purple and Old Gold Award for meritorious scholarship in music. She holds a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, where she was also a teaching assistant and a doctoral candidate. Stacy moved to Denver with her husband, Dagiadi Rebolledo, in the summer of 2004. In addition to teaching music appreciation and piano class at CCA, Stacy maintains a private piano studio and is active as an accompanist.

Tamara Hammond teaches both private and class guitar at CCA, as well as music appreciation and survey of world music. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Guitar Performance from University of Idaho and a Master of Arts degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music.

She initially came to Colorado in 1985 as one of four guitarists selected to perform works by Venezuelan composer, Antonio Lauro, at the First International Guitar Week held at the University of Denver. This invitation led to her relocating to Denver for advanced study with virtuoso guitarist/composer, Ricardo Iznaola. Her formal music training has also included performing for preeminent guitar virtuosos Elliot Fisk, Jorge Morel, Gilbert Biberian, Manuel Barrueco and David Russell, to name a few. Additional teachers who influenced her musicianship and teaching philosophy were concert accordionist, Robert Davine, and harpist, Arlene Wangler. Her career as an instructor of guitar has included teaching for both community college and university continuing education programs. Aside from currently teaching at CCA, she instructs students of classical guitar at her private studio in Parker.

When not involved in music, Tamara loves being outdoors and actively participates in wildlife photography and wildlife conservation.
 

 

  Kerry Johnson, voice instruction

Kerry Johnson, soprano, teaches Voice Class and private voice at CCA. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Chapman University and a Master of Arts Degree in Vocal Performance from Cal-State University, Northridge, CA. During her career she has studied with prominent teachers Janet Smith, Nina Hinson and Judith Natalucci. Kerry has appeared as a guest soloist with the San Diego Symphony, Nevada Symphony, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Pacific Chorale, Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra, San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, Bach Aria Group and many others. She was the featured soprano soloist for St. Mary’s Baroque Orchestra in Littleton, CO. She has performed operatic roles with the Los Angeles concert Opera, Long Beach Opera, San Diego Comic Opera and Opera Pacific. She created the role of “the ghost” in San Diego Opera’s world premiere of Myron Fink’s “The Conquistador” with famed tenor, Jerry Hadley. She most recently sang the role of Belinda in the Baroque Orchestra of Colorado’s performances of “Dido and Aeneas.” In addition to her teaching at CCA, she maintains a private voice studio.

 

  Evan Kirk, music theory / composition

Evan Kirk is an instructor of music theory at the Community College of Aurora. In addition to theory classes, he also teaches private lessons in composition. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, both with an emphasis in Theory and Composition. He was born and raised in Aurora, and loves being able to teach in his hometown.

When he isn’t teaching at CCA, he can be found in Broomfield, where he lives with his wife, Carina, also a teacher. In his spare time, he can be found working any number of odd jobs, including delivering phone books, stocking shelves overnight, and transcribing music for regional performing artists. Among other things, he enjoys adding to an already large music collection, as well as sports, none more than college basketball.

My name is Cathleen Whiles. I currently am teaching for The Community College of Aurora, CCCOnline, and the Community College of Denver. I teach music history, music appreciation, music theory, piano and woodwinds.

I really enjoy teaching online classes. I am very interested in technology and have a multimedia music workstation at home for my private piano students. I received my Bachelors degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in Piano Performance and Music Theory and Composition.

My Masters degree is from the University of Colorado in Boulder in Music Composition. My favorite style of music is 20th century classical music. I enjoy reading and movies, especially those in the science fiction genre. I have three dogs. Two terrier mixes and a Lhasa Alpso I inherited from my father. I also have a daughter named Alia. She was born August 16th, 2003 so I am enjoying motherhood!
