CCA Paralegal Instructor’s Published Article in Legal Assistant Today

An article by CCA paralegal instructor, Tim Wilkerson, entitled, "Final Notice: Bankruptcy Under the New Law" was published in the January/February edition of Legal Assistant Today (LAT), a top national trade publication covering the paralegal profession.

“This is a publication that every paralegal school and any firm that has more than two legal assistants, subscribes to. It’s big, for Tim and the college.” said Public Service Coordinator Margaret Uchner.

Wilkerson, a former bankruptcy attorney, was contacted by LAT to write a feature story on the new bankruptcy laws. Wilkerson began teaching in the ABA-approved paralegal studies program at CCA in 2003.  He has also done presentations on bankruptcy and legal writing at Estrin Legal Ed’s Paralegal Super Conferences. Wilkerson had a private practice in California for 16 years.

President Bowman’s State-of-the-College Address

Dr. Linda Bowman presented her State-of-the-College address at the Spring Faculty Orientation meeting January 11 voicing optimism concerning Aurora’s major industrial and economic opportunities, and about CCA’s responsibility to contribute to and capitalize on that growth.   President Bowman talked about the growth of Denver International Airport area, the Fitzsimons campus, Raytheon, Buckley Air Force Base, major transportation arteries and education initiatives.  CCA will reach into surrounding communities along with the expansion and new vision of the Aurora Public Schools, and the pending partnership with Metropolitan State College, which will offer junior- and senior-level classes at CCA in 2008.

READ Poster Project

Dr. Linda Bowman has been selected by the Aurora Public Library to be part of the READ Poster Project, which has been in existence since mid-2004. The poster project promotes literacy and libraries with prominent individuals in the Aurora community. Dr. Bowman chose to be photographed with To Kill a Mockingbird, her favorite book, which coveys a powerful message about the equality of all people, as learned through the eyes of a young girl in the Deep South. The poster will be placed on the library’s website www.auroralibrary.org, printed in poster-size format and posted at all libraries, the Aurora History Museum, Aurora Recreation Centers and at CCA.

Kidus Tsehaye, a 22-year-old, first-year art student at CCA, shot the winning photograph entitled, “Reflection.”  It won first prize in CCA’s 2006 Fall Art Show. Tsehaye digitally enhanced the golden color of leaves against the dark shadows of tree branches reflected in storm-gray colored water. The combination of images makes Tsehaye’s photographs extraordinary. Tsehaye was born in Ethiopia but has lived in Colorado for the past five years. He graduated from East High School, and then attended Trinidad Jr. College.
