Approximately 35 students from Gateway High School in Aurora will attend a Sept. 25 Xcel Energy Foundation Camp at CCA and will isolate and map DNA, discover the realities of a career as a paramedic, and dissect a cat as part of the day’s events. The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant of $149,909 to the Community College of Aurora for support of a project titled Community College GIS Faculty Institute. Under the direction of CCA faculty members Dr. Geoff Hunt and Elizabeth Hirsh, the Institute will train CCA faculty across the disciplines in the application of Geographic Information Systems technologies for implementation in the classroom. The award is effective August 1.

Todd Bergren, professor of biology at the Community College of Aurora, has been named chair of the State Faculty Advisory Council (SFAC) for the Colorado Community College System. "Tech Camp 101," two weeks of free summer technology camp for Aurora Public Schools middle school students, will be held at Community College of Auroras Lowry Campus.

In an evening designed for those in the helping professions but free and open to all, CCA presents a June 12 program titled Resilience in Tuff Tuff Times: the Healing Power of Poems and Poem Making. A series of events designed to advocate for the right of individuals to feel safe from violence will be held throughout the day on Wednesday, April 22, at the Community College of Aurora. Now recognized as a national movement, this will be the colleges first Take Back the Night event.

The college will host the annual 9Health Fair from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at its CentreTech campus. Anyone 18 and older can participate in a 9Health Fair, and more than 25 health screenings will be available.

Andrew Romanoff announced as CCA's Visiting Scholar The Community College of Aurora has announced that former Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives Andrew Romanoff will serve as its visiting scholar, and two public presentations will be held for members of the community.

The Community College of Aurora is partnering with the University of Denver math department and the professional group Women in Design to spark a greater interest in mathematics among girls. The Community College of Aurora will host approximately 180 students from schools throughout the Aurora/Denver metro area for a the Second Annual Math Day for Girls.  

The public is invited to hear two prominent forensic anthropologists speak at the Community College of Aurora at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the colleges Fine Arts Building Forum. Dr. P. Willey will lecture on They Rode with Custer: Trooper Skeletons from the Little Bighorn, and Dr. Hugh Berryman will lecture on Murders to Mummies: Selected Days in the Life of a Forensic Anthropologist.

The students are participants in APS' Rebound program, an alternative program for expelled students and dropout recovery students, and they will learn firsthand why attending college can help them achieve success in their lives.
