Joni Briola, Community College of Aurora faculty member, will deliver her presentation “China: The Growing Gap Between Old and New” on Friday as part of CCA's Traveling Scholars Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.

CCA will commemorate the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout with a two-day event to help smokers quit smoking. Events will include presentations of student research posters, smoking cessation hypnotic interventions, a panel discussion with former smokers, a book discussion, and a presentation on music, stress, and smoking.

Students from throughout the Aurora Public School district will attend a Nov. 7 Xcel Energy Foundation Camp at CCA. The students are participants in APS' Rebound program, an alternative program for expelled students and dropout recovery students, and they will learn firsthand why attending college can help them achieve success in their lives. 

CCA Asian Studies Visiting Scholar Dr. William Wei will present a public lecture titled "The Silk Road: The Internet of the Ancient World" on Nov. 10.

Maria Halloran will discuss "Senegal: Balancing Tradition and Change" on Nov. 7 as CCA's Traveling Scholars Lecture Series continues.

Colorado Business and Professional Women is sponsoring a public discussion with Gloria Steinem, author and leader on women’s issues, at the Community College of Aurora. Steinem will facilitate a discussion on the top issues on voters’ minds, with an emphasis on women voters.

CCA's annual Sherlin Lecture in Astronomy and Space Science will offer "Cassini: A Mission to Saturn," presented by Dr. Colin Mitchell of the Cassini Mission Imaging Team, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 in the Forum.

Wells Fargo has contributed $15,000 to CCA's initiative to establish Business Simulation Studios at its Lowry Campus-based Center for Simulation.

Glimpses...Portraits of the Soul: The Stories of our CCA Community will be held Nov. 6-8 and Nov. 12, and, of the production, director Stacey D'Angelo says that “through acting, music, dance, and film, we will discover who we are, where we have come from, and where we can go together.

The Community College of Aurora is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 28, and members of the community are encouraged to give.

More than 90 high school juniors from Martin Luther King Early College will attend an Oct. 10 Xcel Energy Foundation Camp at CCA to explore numerous academic tracks and learn why attending college can help them succeed in a big way.

Community College of Aurora Chair of Arts and Humanities Amy Rell will deliver her presentation “Cuba: 90 Miles or 90 Million Miles Away?” on Friday. The event, part of the college’s semester-long Traveling Scholars Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.
