Military Wall of Honor dedication to be held Nov. 11 at CCA
A Military Wall of Honor dedication will be held Nov. 11 at CCA, and
all military branches will be recognized. U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter
and other dignitaries will be on hand for this Veterans Day event,
which is free and open to the public.

"Lookingglass Alice" promises to delight
"Lookingglass Alice," adapted from the stories of Lewis Carroll,
will be performed as CCA’s fall production beginning Oct. 29 and
running through Nov. 8. This family-oriented show will feature
special trick-or-treating for children after the Oct. 31
performances.

Near-earth asteroids the focus of “The Ugly, the Bad, and the Good:”
CCA’s Oct. 30 Sherlin Lecture
Is planet earth at risk of a minor asteroid strike, or complete
obliteration? What are asteroids, anyway? CCA’s Sherlin Lecture in
Astronomy and Space Science on Oct. 30 offers “Near-Earth Asteroids:
The Ugly, the Bad, and the Good” by Dr. Daniel Durda of the
Southwest Research Institute of Boulder.

Poets, performances, workshops: first National Day on Writing to be celebrated at CCA
The Community College of Aurora will celebrate the first National
Day on Writing on Oct. 20 with a slate of events aimed at both
students and the community. Performances by renowned spoken word
artists will highlight the day’s activities.

Students and prospective students will learn how to turn a two-year
degree into a four-year degree when they attend an October Transfer
Fair at CCA. Approximately 35 institutions of higher education will

From Dual Enrollment to Dissecting Cats:
Xcel Energy Foundation Camps at CCA to Benefit
APS Gateway High and APS Overland High School Students
Approximately 35 students from Gateway High School in Aurora will attend a Sept. 25 Xcel Energy Foundation Camp at CCA and will isolate and map DNA, discover the realities of a career as a paramedic, and dissect a cat as part of the day’s events. A similar Camp will be held for Overland High students on Oct. 2.

Hanh Hoang, CCA student and Phi Theta Kappa member, has been named a
“Leader of Promise” by the national PTK organization. The Aurora
resident is one of only 30 students nationwide to receive honor.

National Science Foundation Grant to fund
CCA Faculty Institute in GIS
The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant of $149,909 to the Community College of Aurora
for support of a project titled Community College GIS Faculty Institute. Under the direction of
CCA faculty members Dr. Geoff Hunt and Elizabeth Hirsh, the Institute will train CCA faculty
across the disciplines in the application of Geographic Information Systems technologies for
implementation in the classroom. The award is effective August 1.
