Families, friends, faculty, and staff to celebrate CCA graduates’ accomplishments

AURORA, COLO.— U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) will deliver the commencement address at Community College of Aurora’s graduation ceremony this Saturday, May 9, at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds Event Center in Aurora.

A lifelong resident of Colorado District 7, Perlmutter was elected to the Colorado State Senate in 1994 and was the first Democrat elected to the seat in nearly 30 years. He served two terms and eventually became President Pro Tempore before being term limited. In the Senate he gained a reputation as a bipartisan bridge-builder and a champion of renewable energy and smart growth policies.

In the 111th Congress, Perlmutter is assigned to the Financial Services Committee and the influential Rules Committee, which sets the parameters for debating and voting for legislation on the House floor. A graduate of Jefferson High School in Edgewater and the University of Colorado at Boulder, Perlmutter earned his Juris Doctorate from CU.

Additional remarks at the commencement will be offered by CCA President Linda S. Bowman, CCA faculty member Michael Levell, and CCA student Shawna Marshall. Presiding over the ceremony will be CCA Dean for Liberal Arts Ted Snow. CCA alumna Madalene Cordova will sing the national anthem.

The graduation will begin at 11 a.m. at the Event Center at 25690 East Quincy Avenue, Aurora, CO 80016. Approximately 1,500 friends and family of the graduates, along with CCA faculty and staff, are expected to be on hand to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2009 graduating class. The Aurora Symphony Brass Quintet will provide music before and after the ceremony.
