The Community College of Aurora would like to invite everyone to our annual Constitution Day celebration!

When:  Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 11am-1pm
Where: CTC Rotunda in the Student Services Building

This year’s celebration will feature a talk by Suzette Davis-Hudson, a CCA alumna, as well as a Constituent Service Representative for U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, the annual Constitution Day Bowl and tentatively scheduled a representative from the Department of Homeland Security will be present to speak about the avenues and processes of attaining US Citizenship. Come test your knowledge about the Constitution, practice a bit of civic engagement and celebrate our nation’s second constitution.

Did you know?

  • Our first constitution was a confederacy that lacked a judiciary or an independent executive?
  • That our current constitutional definition of citizenship was formulated by the 14th
Amendment, ratified in 1868, to address the status of former slaves?
  • That all bills pertaining to raising revenues (taxes) have to arise in the House of
    Representatives?
  • That your House of Representatives member was the only federal officer directly elected by the people at the signing of the Constitution?

Whether you knew all of these or not, if it provoked your interest to learn more about your government, come by our Constitution Day festivities and enjoy an exciting, spirited celebration!
