COURSE DESCRIPTION: |
|
Principles of Accounting I is an introductory accounting course intended to provide an opportunity to learn and experience basic bookkeeping and accounting procedures and practices. You will be exposed to the "language of business", and you will get acquainted with the accounting profession. This course introduces the study of accounting principles to give you an understanding of the theory and logic of basic accounting procedures and practices. Major topics include: the accounting cycle for service and merchandising companies; special journals and subsidiary ledgers; internal control principles and practices; notes and interest; inventory systems and costing; plant asset and intangible asset accounting; and depreciation methods and practices. Class work is designed to be conducted over the internet. Consequently, most of your contact will necessarily be by e-mail. Students must provide own access to the internet. On-line course materials are "linked" through a linking index to facilitate on-line surfing. An accounting practice set is required – it is a great practical experience! Students do a complete set of books by hand providing good reinforcement and integration of theoretical concepts. Additional projects and quizzes are assigned on a periodic basis and subject to due dates as indicated in the course syllabus. Submissions of projects, etc will be via email. | |
