Microeconomics

Principles of Microeconomics 202 – 176 (Online)

003 Credit Hours

(June 1 to August 9)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Welcome to Microeconomics.  The business world and the world at large is a thicket of data about jobs, real estate, investments, crime, poverty, the global economy and more.    Economics is a set of tools that can be applied to virtually any problem.   This class will introduce you to those tools and develop a framework for understanding how individuals, firms and governments make decisions to maximize their benefit.

If you are reading this introduction you have selected the on-line Microeconomics course over the alternative in-class version.  The on-line course allows for greater study flexibility.  However, with greater flexibility comes greater responsibility.   For all practical purposes an on-line course is a self-study course.  The successful self-study candidate in Microeconomics will have the following attributes:

  • The internal discipline to keep current with class assignments including reading the text and on-line supplements, and submitting homework, quizzes and tests on line on time.
  • The curiosity and motivation to seek out additional resources in those areas where you are not satisfied with your understanding.
  • A basic understanding of algebra and graphs or a way to attain that knowledge quickly when the study topic requires it.

If these attributes apply to you, Microeconomics on-line will be a good match.  In the spirit of full disclosure, if the above criteria do not apply, you will find the on-line version of Microeconomics to be significantly more difficult than the in-class version.  If your learning style is best served through real time verbal interaction with the ability to ask questions and get immediate feedback, you will want to consider taking Microeconomics in-class.
