ACCUPLACER® Assessment

ACCUPLACER® Assessment

The ACCUPLACER® Assessment helps our advisors determine where to begin your educational program. The assessment serves to ensure success in college by placing students in the appropriate reading, math, and English class. We offer testing at the Centretech Campus in Enrollment Services in the Administration Building, and in the Learning Resource Center in the Student Center Building; at the Lowry Campus in West Quad, Building 903, room 119. For hours at all campus locations, please select the location from our main page.

All new students must be assessed. Students are exempt from assessment only if they:

  • Have evidence of an Associate of Arts (AA) or Science (AS) degree or higher.
  • Have evidence of college-level English or math courses with a grade of "C" or higher.
  • Have evidence of current ACT or SAT scores evidencing sufficient knowledge to meet the prerequisites of the class you want to attend. See the table of ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer prerequisites. English speaking ability is also required. If English is not your native language, you may be required to take the LOEP exam. See the table of LOEP and WritePlacer placement prerequisites and info.
  • Are non-degree or non-certificate seeking and are not taking courses with prerequisites (does not apply to students under the age of 20).
  • Are seeking only a Real Estate certificate or a Certificate of Recognition (does not apply to students under the age of 20).

No appointment is necessary. Please bring a photo ID. You may start the test at any time within 2 hours of scheduled closing times. Plan to spend about 90 minutes to complete the test. The test is not timed and calculators or other electronic devices are not allowed. Children are not allowed in the testing area. Food, beverages and tobacco products are not allowed in the testing area.  Your results will be immediately available upon completion. The first test is free for incoming students, retakes cost $5 per section ($15 for the entire test). Students may test up to twice in a five-year period. Test scores are valid for five years.  Individuals with special needs should call ahead for an appointment.

Course placement from assessment is mandatory. Assessment testing is available at the CentreTech Campus and the Lowry West Quad, main floor. Call 303-360-4797; or 303-360-7093 at Lowry for additional information.

The test covers Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills/grammar, Arithmetic and Elementary Algebra. For students taking advanced Math, there is also a College level Math exam.
