Assessment (Placement) Test

The Assessment/Course Placement Test assists students in determining where to begin their educational program. It helps to help assure success in college by placing students in the appropriate reading, math, and English class. Assessment (Placement) testing services are offered at the Centretech Campus in Enrollment Services (Administration Building) Lowry Campus in the One Stop in building 903, and at the Buckley One Stop in Bldg 606, room 112.

The CentreTech Assessment lab in the LRC is open from:
7:30 am - 6:30
* pm Monday - Thursday
7:30 am - 3:30
* pm Friday
9:00 am - 11:30
* am Saturday.

The Lowry Assessment lab
at LC903 is open from:
8 am - 3:00
* pm Monday - Thursday
8 am - 2:00
* pm Friday
Closed Saturday and Sunday

*Assessment testing must start by this time, as assessments must start one and a half hours before the testing center closes.

All new students must be assessed. Students are exempt from assessment if they have:

  • Evidence of an Associate of Arts or Science degree or higher.
  • Evidence of college-level English or math courses with a grade of C or higher.
  • Evidence of ACT or SAT scores evidencing sufficient knowledge to meet the prerequisites of the class you want to attend.  See the table of ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer prerequisites. English speaking ability is also required. If English is not your native language, you may be required to take the LOEP exam. See the table of LOEP and WritePlacer placement prerequisites.
  • They are non-degree or non-certificate seeking and are not taking courses with prerequisites (does not apply to students under the age of 20).
  • They are seeking only a Real Estate certificate or a Certificate of Recognition (does not apply to students under the age of 20).

 

No appointment is necessary. Please bring a photo ID.  You may start the test at any time within 1 1/2 hours of scheduled closing times. Plan to spend about 90 minutes to complete the test. Individuals with special needs should call ahead for an appointment. The test is not timed and calculators or other electronic devices are not allowed. Children are not allowed in the testing area. Your results will be immediately available upon completion. The first test is free, retakes cost $5 per section ($15 for the entire test).  Students may test up to twice in a five-year period.  Test scores are valid for five years.

The test covers Reading Comprehension, Sentence skills/grammar, Arithmetic and Elementary Algebra.  For students taking advanced Math, there is also a College level Math exam. 

Course placement from assessment is mandatory. Assessment testing is available at the CentreTech Campus and the Lowry One Stop in building 903. CCA regularly offers pre-assessment workshops in math and English to refresh your memory and help you do your best on the assessment.
