Checking out books

How do I obtain a Library card?

To obtain a library account number, CCA students and instructors should present a current CCA registration receipt or CCA pay stub together with a Colorado Driver’s License or ID, or by completing a form available in the CCA Library.

Some common questions:
How many items can students/faculty/employees check out of the Library and for how long?
What are the checkout policies for videotapes and DVDs?
How do I renew items?
What are the Library’s overdue fees?

Checkout periods:

  • Books, audio cassettes and CDs-3 weeks.
  • Videos and DVDs-1 week.

Renewals

  • You may renew any item up to four times if the item is not on hold.
  • Each library card is limited to a total of 7 DVDs or videos checked out at one time.
  • To renew your item, either call 303-340-7545, or visit our patron login page to conveniently renew your books online. Have your library card number ready for either service.

Overdue materials/fees:

  • Materials are overdue the day after the due date.
  • Fines are waived on three-week materials that are returned within two days after the due date.
  • Fines are 20 cents per day, per item, from the due date to a maximum of $3.00 per item.
  • Materials that are lost, damaged or stolen will be assessed for the full purchase price of the item plus a reprocessing fee.
  • Charges over $25.00 may be referred to a collection agency.

I do not attend CCA; can I still checkout materials from the Library?
Yes, any Colorado resident with a current library card from any library in Colorado may checkout materials from the CCA library, and use CCA’s online resources.

How do I checkout eBooks?
Access to eBooks is available by setting up a free account with NetLibrary from a computer within the Library. Once you have established an account, you can access any eBooks listed in our online catalog either on-campus or off-campus.

Reserve Collection

How do I place items on reserve?

Items are placed on reserve by instructors. If you are an instructor and you want to place an item on reserve for your class, simply bring the item to the CCA Library information desk. You will be asked to fill out a short information sheet. The reserve item will be kept on reserve until you request that it be taken off reserve.

My instructor placed items on reserve. What does this mean and where are they?

Reserve items include textbooks, study guides, DVDs, and other items that instructors have placed on reserve for their class. Reserve items are located behind the information desk in the Library. The checkout period is determined by the instructor and varies from thirty minutes to three days.

What do I need to checkout reserve items?

You will need a CCA Library account to check out reserve items.

What if you don’t have a book or periodical article that I want?

If you need a book or periodical article that the Library does not own, we can get it for you from another library via the SWIFT Interlibrary loan service. This service is available to all CCA faculty, students, and staff.

How long will it take to get my requested item?

It depends on the availability of the item and where it is coming from. Items from Colorado libraries usually arrive sooner than items from libraries in other states. It can take one to two weeks to receive materials so please plan accordingly.

Can I renew my SWIFT item?

It depends on the lending library but we will be more than happy to request an extension for you.

Where do I return the material I received from Prospector?

Please return your SWIFT item to the CCA Library.
