IE for CCA Students

Inclusive Excellence Student Council (IESC)

The Inclusive Excellence Student Council (IESC) celebrates self-awareness as we examine our impact on each other while challenging and transcending generations of racial and social stigmas so we may empower CCA’s entire community to reach our fullest potential. The IESC will provide a platform for student involvement in this crucial conversation to assist in gauging students’ attitudes concerning CCA’s culture and its level of inclusion while practicing and promoting responsible empowerment over stigmas.

Our mission is to create a safe learning environment that is inclusive of all students by embracing diversity and encouraging equity throughout all levels of the college experience. Meetings will be determined by the most common students’ availability each semester.

Sonder: Student Employees Pursuing Inclusive Excellence

Sonder is a five-part developmental series for CCA Student Employees that facilitates the learning of theoretical concepts surrounding Inclusive Excellence and reflects practical applications within personal lives, academic pursuits, and supporting the Student Employee's department.

Some of the outcomes for participating in the series include:

  • Participants will join in the dialogue of Inclusive Excellence at CCA (along with staff and faculty).
  • Participants will be introduced to concepts, theories, and practices that strategize efforts for inclusion and equity.
  • Participants will reflect on their personal and social identities in order to build awareness on community impact.
  • Participants will critically analyze their work and college environments through the lens of Community College of Aurora’s Four Institutional Outcomes: cultural competence, critical thinking, career and transfer readiness, and communication.
  • Participants will engage in activities and dialogue empowering their voice and their story.
  • Participants will explore opportunities for leadership within their student employee position(s).

Sonder is a semester-long program and we are currently at capacity for Spring 2019.  If you would like to be added to a future Sonder cohort, or have any questions, please contact Mike Roderique, Inclusive Excellence Training Coordinator, at michael.roderique@ccaurora.edu or 303-360-4743.
