New Program Offers Child Care Support While You Earn a Certificate

Parents holding a baby that is touching the father's noseIf you are a parent who wants to go back to college but child care costs are an obstacle, Community College of Aurora’s Strengthening Working Families Initiative (SWFI) can help. In addition to providing help with child care, the program offers academic support, career and job advice, and can set you on the path to a great career.

The Community College of Aurora received a $3.9 million grant this summer from the U.S. Department of Labor to help fund CCA’s “Access to Success” Program through the Strengthening Working Families Initiative (SWFI). The SWFI program is designed to assist parents with child care support while they earn a certificate in high-demand careers in fields such as healthcare, IT, or advanced manufacturing.

The SWFI grant is accepting applications for classes that start in January. Here are six important reasons why the SWFI program may be the right path for you to follow to a better career.

Nine Things to Know Before You Register for Fall Classes

Pencil and clipboardFall registration is right around the corner and you can begin adding classes on Monday. But before you register for fall classes, here are some helpful tips that the Admissions and Records Department and the Center for Outreach Recruitment would like you to keep in mind:

  1. Do your Degree Check! If you don’t want to schedule time to see an advisor, go to MyCCA, log in, and click on the Student tab. Go to the right side of the page and scroll down a little to find the section titled, Steps to Graduate. Underneath you will find Degree Check; use this tool to see what classes you need to take. This will keep you from registering for a class you already have taken or ensure you don’t take a class that you don’t need. Continue reading »
