Several departments at the Community College of Aurora have received grants to help its students realize their potential.

Grant Description: This grant provides classes to prepare students to pass a high school equivalency exam (GED, TASC, or HiSET). Students study math, language arts, social studies, and science in preparation for the exam.

Grant Description: 
This grant is designed to help students improve their basic skills and learn the skill sets needed to find an entry-level job on their career pathway. CCA’s program specifically trains students for customer service-oriented jobs in the healthcare field and to find employment on the Anschutz Campus in Denver, CO.

Grant Description: This grant funds programs as part of the Aurora Postsecondary Pipeline, which significantly increases the number of minority and low-income students enrolling in and completing college. Funding will support CCA’s efforts to strengthen best practice interventions, support students to explore and enroll in postsecondary degree and certificate programs, and provide ongoing navigation supports to students at CCA throughout their college experience.

Grant Description: COSGC is funded by NASA and is a state-wide organization involving 17 colleges, universities, and institutions in Colorado. This grant provides CCA students access to space through innovative courses and hands-on workshops, robotics, high altitude balloon, and rocket programs.

Grant Description: This grant helps fund the Mapping a Pathway project, which builds on the individual efforts and successes of five collaborating colleges (Arapahoe Community College; the Community College of Aurora; the Community College of Denver, a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI); Front Range Community College; and Red Rocks Community College) in order to strengthen the community colleges’ contributions to Colorado’s STEM-ready talent pipeline.

Grant Description: The goal of the “Engage IT: Building Capacity in Community Colleges” grant is to recruit and retain underrepresented students in computing and to develop an effective and scalable professional development curriculum to build capacity in community college faculty for recruiting and retaining more female and minority students in computer science and information technology. The grant is in partnership with the University of Colorado at Boulder and the National Center for Women in Technology (NCWIT).

Grant Description: CCA’s Student Success Center received a five-year grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, to help low-income and first-generation students earn a certificate or associate degree and transfer to a four-year school to earn a bachelor degree. TRiO students are assigned an advisor to help them navigate the college process and participate in workshops and supplemental tutoring to help them achieve their goals. The program serves 160 students.

Grant Description: CCA’s Student Success Center received a five-year grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education. This program is designed to help low-income and first-generation students whose primary language is not English to earn a certificate or associate degree and transfer to a four-year school to earn a bachelor degree. TRiO ESL students are assigned an advisor to help them navigate the college process and participate in workshops and supplemental tutoring to help them achieve their goals. The program serves 140 students.

Grant Description: CCA’s Community ESL Program, in collaboration with the Colorado African Organization and Lutheran Family Services-Rocky Mountains, obtained this grant from the U.S. Citizenship & Immigrations Services to expand citizenship classes offered at CCA at an affordable fee.

Grant Description: This grant funds the college’s “Access to Success” program through the USDOL’s Strengthening Working Families Initiative. The program will help parents obtain entry-level jobs in high-demand, high growth H-1B career pathways in healthcare, information technology and advanced manufacturing. In addition to technical career training, Access to Success will help parents overcome child care, academic, and financial barriers; obtain jobs in high growth industries; and pursue career advancement with a smooth transition off public benefits.
