The English as a Second Language (ESL) Accuplacer measures the student's skill-level in grammar, writing, and reading comprehension.
You need to take this test if English is not your primary language or you have not been using it on a daily basis for a long time. Your ESL scores will help you and your academic advisor decide what classes you will take as you begin your study at CCA. Your results will be shown on a computer printout for you after you finish your test.
The ESL Accuplacer is an untimed, multiple choice, essay prompt, and computer-based test that usually takes students about 3-hours to complete the full test.
This test includes:
A valid government issued photo ID.
There is a $5 fee per section and attempt. Fees are to be paid when you come in to test. The cashiers accept cash, debit and credit cards.
It is important to do your best when taking the test.
Students may retest after a minimum of 3 days (2 weeks recommended) and take each section twice in a three year period. It is strongly advised to prepare for your test, as you will have limited retest options.
Be prepared to succeed on your college placement test!
The possibilities for retesting are limited, and your Accuplacer test results will have a great time and financial impact on your education. There are many ways to prepare for your test.
The ESL Accuplacer Study Workbook is filled with practice problems, similar to what you'll see on the acutal test.
Pick up a free copy at the CentreTech or Lowry Testing Centers, Admissions, the Welcome Desk, Advising, or access the electronic verison of the CCA ESL Accuplacer Study Workbook. This is a great tool to refresh your English skills.
The Academic Learning Center offers free in-person workshops to prepare you for the placement test. Registration is not required. Please remember to bring your student ID and to arrive early. Attendees more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted.
