Learn About CCA

What is a Hispanic-Serving Institution?

The Community College of Aurora was designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) in 2016. To receive this designation, institutions must have an undergraduate Hispanic full-time equivalent student enrollment of 25 percent or more. At CCA, more than 30 percent of the student population identifies as Latinx, and about 1 in 16 students who graduate are Latinx students.

As an HSI designated institution, CCA can apply for federal grant funding to assist in strengthening and expanding our programs, facilities, and services for Latinx students and other minoritized populations.

While the term Hispanic is used in the designation, Latinx is the more commonly term used at CCA. Hispanic is a government-designated term used in the U.S. to refer to people of origin or ancestry from Spanish-speaking countries. Latinx is the term that affirms people who do not identify in the gender-binary of the Spanish language. Language and geographic location are what separate Hispanic from Latinx.

At CCA, we work diligently to offer academic services, financial aid, and co-curricular events to our Latinx and other minoritized students.

1. Find Your Guided Pathway

2. Apply for Admission

If you are new to CCA or have been away from CCA for a year or more, you need to complete the online application for admission.  There is no deadline or fee to apply.  A couple of days after you apply you will receive an email with your student ID number and initial password.

3. Apply for Financial Aid

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see if you are eligible for any kind of aid (grants, loans, work-study and scholarships). Financial Aid can take 4 – 6 weeks to process, so don’t delay!

4. Login to CCA Navigate

Login to your CCA Navigate account using the username and password you use to access your MyCCA account. Navigate will help you to stay on track at CCA and to plan, schedule, and register for your courses.

5. Meet the Assessment Requirement

All students must meet assessment requirements in the areas of math and English to register for courses. Complete the “Do I Meet the Assessment Requirements?” form to learn if you can qualify for placement, based on your prior test score or transcripts.

If you are unable to meet the assessment requirements, Testing Center staff will contact you, based on the information you submitted in the “Do I Meet the Assessment Requirements?” form. Testing staff will assist you in coordinating the Accuplacer test remotely.

For more information, please contact the Testing Center at Testing@CCAurora.edu or leave a message at (303)360-4948.

6. Meet With a Pathways Advisor

7. Register for Classes

Remember to print a copy of your schedule a few days before the semester begins to get updated room information.

8. Do You Have a Plan to Pay for Your Classes?

Apply for the College Opportunity Fund COF

If you are a Colorado resident for tuition purposes and did not sign-up for COF through your admissions application, you can sign-up online.  If you have any questions about your residency determination or COF, please contact the Admissions, Registration & Records Office at 303 360-4797.

Apply for Scholarships

Apply for CCA Foundation Scholarships! Over $500,000 available in scholarships!

Set Up a Payment Plan

It takes time for a financial aid award to apply to your student account. If you have not received an award letter and you have not processed an acceptance of your financial aid for the current term, you should setup a payment plan. Signing up for a payment plan early allows for the lowest down payment options and guarantees your spot in class.

9. Activate Your Email

Your college email account is the official method of communication at CCA, so it is extremely important that you activate your account and check it frequently.  Instructions to activate your email account will be sent to the email address you provided in your admissions application within 24 hours of the time you register for your first course at CCA.

10. Attend Orientation

First-time college students are required to attend orientation, but all students can benefit from attending! At orientation, you will learn about what it is like to be a student at CCA, your path to your career, how to pay for college, and much more. Orientation = Success!

11. Get Your Student ID and Parking Pass

Stop by the Welcome Center at the CentreTech Campus or Lowry Student Services to get your CCA Student ID card and your parking pass.  Photo ID is required to get your Student ID.

12. Buy Your Books

Take your schedule to the bookstore to purchase your books.  Buy your books before classes begin to be prepared.

13. Select a Refund Preference

A little more than a week after you register for classes, you can select your refund preference with BankMobile. For more information about BankMobile, visit the BankMobile Refund Choices page.

Special Note for Transfer Students

Submit your official transcripts from any prior colleges you attended.  CCA will transfer in any courses completed with a C or better that align with your chosen pathway at CCA.
