Behavioral Sciences Program-Level Outcomes (PLOs)
Program Level Outcomes are statements which articulate, in measurable terms, what students should know and be able to demonstrate as a result of and at the conclusion of a program. PLOs communicate program goals explicitly and foster transfer of responsibility for learning from faculty to students.
Program Level Outcomes (PLOs) - Psychology A.A.
A student who obtains an A.A. degree in Psychology from the Community College of Aurora will demonstrate the following abilities:
Knowledge Base and Application in the Behavioral Sciences:
Students will demonstrate understanding of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology or sociology and students will understand and apply psychological or sociological principles to personal, social, and organizational issues.
Research Methods in the Behavioral Sciences:
Students will understand and apply the principles of basic research methods in psychology or sociology, including the scientific method, research design, generalizability of results, and interpretation.
Critical Thinking Skills in the Behavioral Sciences:
Students will use critical thinking, skeptical inquiry, and, where appropriate, the scientific approach to explain an issue, utilize context, understand implications, and make conclusions related to behavior and mental processes or social interaction and social structure.
Behavioral Sciences Values and Ethics:
Students will recognize, understand, and demonstrate knowledge of the values and ethical behavior mandated by the field and students will recognize, understand, and demonstrate principles of self-awareness, issues of global concern, equity, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and universal human rights.
Writing, Communication, and Information Literacy in the Behavioral Sciences:
Students will become proficient in writing with APA format and referencing as well as maintain high standards of academic integrity; students will communicate effectively through oral and written means; and students will understand how to access, comprehend, and utilize scholarly and peer-reviewed sources.
