REPORTS TO: Arts and Communication Department Chair           

SUPERVISES: May be assigned supervisory responsibilities           

POSITION SUMMARY:      

The Community College of Aurora is a dynamic institution that strives to serve its diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusivity. The Department of Arts and Communication is seeking a full-time, 9-month faculty member. We are a department that values collaboration and experimentation, and we are looking for a colleague who shares these values. The Art program offers a rigorous foundation in core areas of drawing, creativity, and design. Our purpose is prepare each student for future academic transfer or careers in the creative field. The ideal candidate will be able to interact effectively with students, colleagues, administrators, and community members in a variety of settings. The ideal candidate will also have experience teaching a variety of Art courses at the college level.  Candidates must possess familiarity with the issues facing today’s art professionals while demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, Inclusive Excellence, ethics, and community. This position may require evenings and/or weekend hours.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize interactive, learner-centered teaching and classroom management methods that impact students in an equitable manner
  • Maintain and update syllabi for all courses included in the teaching assignment and submit these documents each semester
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance in classes
  • Develop and implement curriculum for classes and programs that meet student and community needs
  • Infuse curriculum with technology to actively engage students in the learning process
  • Contribute to and coordinate the processes of instructional planning, course and program assessment, and curriculum review
  • Pursue continued professional development both in subject matter and instructional methods (including Inclusive Excellence initiatives)
  • Engage in service to the program, department, and college, including service that contributes to institutional decision-making
  • Support the Lead Art faculty with growing the program, supporting concurrent enrollment conducting instructor observations, and organizing and implementing the annual student art show
  • Maintain studio spaces and materials for the Art Program
  • Work collaboratively to ensure quality instruction across the department
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the college, participating in advising, committee assignments, and other academic and institutional support activities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Art or MFA
  • At least 3 years teaching experience with college-level studio digital photography courses
  • At least 3 years teaching experience with college-level art and design lecture courses
  • At least 3 years industry experience in digital photography with a professional portfolio
  • Versatile educator with expertise in multiple mediums and applications
  • Strong administrative and interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and an interest in contributing to a collaborative work environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • More than 3 years teaching experience in college-level studio digital photography courses and/or art and design courses
  • Experience teaching college-level 2D, 3D, or Drawing courses
  • Community college teaching experience
  • A service-learning approach to instruction
  • Experience with program assessment
  • Experience in program and curriculum development
  • Experience with, and understanding of, diverse student populations
  • Knowledge of online LMS platforms (Desire2Learn, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Inclusive Excellence

Position Information:  Anticipated start date is August 13, 2018.  Nine-Month faculty are expected to work 166 days per academic year in accordance with the Nine-Month Faculty Calendar. 

Salary Range:  Anticipated salary range is in the mid $40’s to low $50’s depending on experience and education. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan. Leave and holiday benefits are also included. For more information on the insurance benefits, click on the following link:  Benefits
