Physics Adjunct Instructor (Part-Time)

Position Title:  Physics Instructor, Adjunct Faculty (part-time)

FLSA Status:   Exempt

Position Summary:  Teach Physics courses using techniques and pedagogies effective for a group of diverse students.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to the successful attainment of identified course competencies
  • Evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus
  • Teach assigned classes in keeping with community college philosophy.
  • Be knowledgeable about pedagogy, methods, retention, inclusion, and assessment of outcomes (or be available and willing to receive training in these areas)
  • One week prior to the first day of class, provide the Faculty Lead as well as department assistant with a copy of the course syllabus and handouts of required/graded assignments
  • At the first class meeting, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the course model syllabus and the competencies established in the Colorado Common Course Numbering System
  • Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures at the end of the semester
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students and submit no-shows, grades, and required records to the college via Banner by the required deadlines
  • Attend required meetings
  • Complete the DesireToLearn (D2L) training and New Faculty Orientation
  • Participate in coaching/mentoring and assessment initiatives established by Department Chair and/or Faculty Lead

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Physics or related field
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to engage and impact students, particularly students from historically marginalized or racialized groups
  • Excellent pedagogical and administrative skills and practices

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Community college teaching experience
  • PhD in a related field
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing new curricular activities that impact student success
  • Demonstrated interest in engaging and impacting underrepresented students
  • Prior college level teaching

Salary:   Instructional hours will be paid at the current adjunct rate. Site training and coordination will be paid on a contract basis. 

Anticipated Start Date:   Spring 2018
