The Position: The Associate Dean works under the leadership of the Dean of Academic Affairs and assist the Dean in providing leadership in and management of School operations. The Associate Dean works with department chairs, the faculty, and personnel across the college to support the pursuit of college and School strategic objectives and to coordinate effective and efficient operations within the school. The Associate Dean maintains a commitment to high-quality instruction and the ongoing pursuit of excellence in school initiatives and activities.

The Associate Dean demonstrates inclusiveness and service to others and maintains commitment to the value of diversity among students and staff. The Associate Dean works with colleagues to create an atmosphere of trust and respect in which all can succeed. The Associate Dean shares responsibility for the daily operations of the School and ensures service quality in program delivery including degree requirements, advising, scheduling, academic regulations and policy compliance, co-curricular programming, concurrent enrollment quality assurance, and other components that impact the student experience.

Community College of Aurora is seeking candidates for the School of Liberal Arts. Applicants should assure that their experience and qualifications clearly apply to this position. The School of Liberal Arts includes the departments of Behavioral Sciences, Education, English, English as a Second Language, Humanities, Performing Arts and Social Sciences. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Associate Dean assists the Dean of Academic Affairs in the following areas:

  • Provide assistance in developing and implementing School’s strategic plan and goals
    • Provide vision, innovation and leadership to guide and administer academic offerings
    • Share responsibility for the day to day and long term management of the School including supporting department chairs, scheduling and budgeting
    • Evaluate, research and implement School initiatives
    • Develop and implement School procedures and processes related to enrollment management, student success, completion, advising and concurrent enrollment
    • Ensure the curriculum meets the needs of students and aligns with college, state and national requirements and accrediting agencies
    • Prepare institutional, state, and national reports in a timely manner
    • Review curriculum to ensure students gain the competencies to succeed in transfer and career/technical programs
    • Support department chairs in transfer and articulation processes
    • Plan and manage physical facilities assigned to the School

Required Qualifications: (In order to advance in this search process, your resume must demonstrate that you meet all of the following required qualifications)

    • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a content area taught within the School
    • Three or more years of leadership experience in higher education
    • Experience in education
    • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population

    • Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission
    • Progressive leadership responsibility
    • Ability to embrace change in a dynamic higher education settings.
