CCA’s Colorado Space Grant Students Launch Balloon During Total-Solar Eclipse

CCA Science Department students Christopher Doyle, Eugene Golden, Erid Pineda, Juvinni Pineda Bu-Assaf, and Olesiy Pobyeda participated in the NASA Space Grant eclipse ballooning project in Guernsey, WY on August 21 during the total solar eclipse.
Under the direction of Victor Andersen, Science Department faculty, the students flew a number of cameras on a high-altitude balloon that returned images and video of different aspects of the eclipse, seen from 60,000 to 90,000 feet.
CCA was one of five Colorado colleges selected to participate in this nationwide project. Doyle, Golden, and Pineda will transfer to the University of Colorado-Boulder to major in mechanical engineering. Pobyeda will transfer to Metropolitan State University later this fall to major in computer science.
The student video is on YouTube.

Television personality Steve Spangler also recorded an interview about the trip to Guernsey where he spoke with Doyle and Andersen.
