June 2020 - Xcel Energy Foundation has awarded a $15,000 grant to the Community College of Aurora to continue the college’s work in increasing the number of underserved students prepared to earn degrees and certificates in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The Xcel Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that awards charitable grants that align with its four focus areas of education, economic sustainability, environmental stewardship and access to arts and culture. The majority of Xcel Energy Foundation funding comes from Xcel Energy shareholders.
Xcel Energy Foundation grant funds will support the STEM Pathways to Success program, which is intended to expand, strengthen and diversify the STEM workforce in the Denver metro area. The STEM Pathways to Success program is just one part of a broader STEM initiative developed by the Community College of Aurora to help connect students with four-year colleges and jobs in this high-demand field. CCA offers a variety of STEM-related programming and support services for its students, including the S-STEM Scholars Program, Colorado Space Grant Consortium, and Metro Denver STEM Alliance: Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP).
Xcel Energy Foundation has supported CCA programs since 2002.
“The Xcel Energy Foundation has been a strong and essential supporter of CCA and the students we serve. And, in addition to monetary support, the Xcel Energy Foundation has been indispensable in connecting CCA students with relevant and inspiring real-world experiences in Xcel Energy worksites, exposing them to professionals in exciting, attainable and well-paid careers, while encouraging them to continue their education at 4-year institutions and beyond,” said Janel Highfill, Associate Vice President of Workforce, Partnerships, and Resource Development.
