On Monday, September 11, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., CCA faculty member Brandon Williams will give a presentation that will:

  • Explore the contested memory behind Confederate monuments
  • Explore the attempts to honor the victims of slavery and Jim Crow
  • Contextualize these contemporary debates and controversies
  • Contrast the views of proponents and critics of Confederate monuments

Did you know…?

Recent clashes between white nationalists and counter-protesters over Confederate Monuments in Charlottesville illustrate that the legacy of slavery, the Civil War, and Jim Crow still exist in American society.

Across the country, Confederate flag and monument supporters have held more than 350 rallies since Dylan Roof’s 2015 attack on a black church in South Carolina.
