AMR to Host Seventh-Annual National Competition at CCA's Center for Simulation

Paramedics and EMTs from American Medical Response (AMR) will participate in the AMR 2017 National Competition, an exciting, hands-on event that simulates a variety of medical conditions and encounters with patients and bystanders.

The Greenwood Village-based provider of emergency medical services (EMS) will showcase top EMS practitioners’ clinical knowledge and safety skills Sunday, August 6, at the Community College of Aurora, Lowry Campus – Center for Simulation in Denver. This is the fifth year that CCA has partnered with AMR to host this national competition.

“As a national leader in EMS, we are committed to ensuring that our practitioners adhere to EMS best practices, are aware of the latest advancements in healthcare and provide, high-quality, patient-centered care,” said Ron Thackery, senior vice president of professional services for AMR. “We are excited to offer this great learning opportunity which underscores the importance of safe EMS response and transport services.”

After winning their local and regional competitions, 7 two-person teams from across the U.S. will compete in the final event for the “Best of AMR” title. The pairs will participate in numerous situations with actors to replicate challenges they might face in the field. In addition, the teams will compete in a timed driving course that measures their abilities to operate an ambulance safely while caring for a patient.

“This is a great opportunity for CCA to support first responders during this competition,” said Pony Anderson, director of the Disaster Management Institute.

AMR and EMS Industry leaders will judge participants on their proficiency in clinical knowledge and EMS safety such as their abilities to follow gurney-lifting techniques, provide outstanding patient care and work well as a team under pressure.
