"In Times of War" continues to garner awards, earn screening opportunities at film festivals

"In Times of War,” a film that has its origins in the 7th Congressional District Veterans Oral History Project supported by U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, has earned the Colorado Spotlight Award at the Indie Spirit Film Festival held recently in Colorado Springs. The film also was invited to screen at the recent Film Festival of Colorado in Denver, and has just been accepted into the Estes Park Film Festival to be held in September.

Faculty members and students at the Community College of Aurora’s Colorado Film School are behind the creation and production of the film.

Revised and recut for submission to national film festivals, the Film School’s original “The Wars We Fought: Frontline Stories of Colorado Veterans” documentary was transformed into “In Times of War: Colorado Vets” and was selected for screening at the 2009 GI Film Festival in Washington, D.C.

“The Wars We Fought” was unveiled by Congressman Perlmutter in November 2008 on behalf of the 7th Congressional District Veterans Oral History Project. Produced for the Library of Congress, the film presents in vivid detail the stories of Colorado veterans who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. CCA faculty and staff were key in capturing and documenting the stories of these courageous individuals.
