Members of the community are invited to participate in a screening program offered at the Community College of Aurora in recognition of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
From 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, participants can learn about the prevalence of eating disorders in the United States, discover the warning signs and criteria for diagnosis, see videos and obtain handouts, and learn about treatment options. Information about prevention and how to lead a healthy lifestyle also will be available.
During the screening, students in Dr. Peggy Norwood's "Abnormal Psychology" class will operate eight standalone stations offering information about eating disorders. The students are participating in a pilot study on using iPads for instruction and learning and will integrate the technology into the research and delivery of information during the screening.
The event is free and open to the public and will be held in the Student Centre Rotunda, 16000 E. CentreTech Parkway, Aurora CO 80011.
