The Community College of Aurora will hold its 2011-
12 commencement ceremony May 5 at 11 a.m. at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds Event
Many of the college’s current and former leadership will be integrated into the
proceedings. CCA interim president Dr. Geri Anderson will deliver welcome remarks; vice
president of instruction Xeturah Woodley presides over the event and leads the presentation
of graduates; and Dr. Betsy Oudenhoven, vice president for student services and enrollment
management, will narrate.
Dr. Linda S. Bowman delivers the commencement address. She stepped down earlier this
year after nearly 12 years of distinguished service to the college and surrounding
community. William Hicks, CCA’s faculty of the year, and Jaime Corchado, past recipient
of awards from the Colorado Community College System as an outstanding student and
CCA as a successful student, also will present keynote speeches.
Bernadette Marquez, from the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational
Education, and James Lewien, from the College Advisory Council, will hand diplomas to
graduates. The prelude, processional and recessional will feature performances by the
Peakview Brass Quintet.
The Arapahoe County Fairgrounds Event Center is located at 25690 E. Quincy Ave.,
Aurora, near Quincy and Gun Club Road. Seating is limited and available on a first-come,
Graduates are asked to keep their guests lists to no more than 5-7 and must attend a Friday
rehearsal at 4 p.m. in order to practice the ceremony.
