CCA’s National Day on Writing Features Prominent Authors & Poets

Aurora, Colorado – Oct. 6, 2016 – T.A. Barron, acclaimed fantasy and naturalist writer and author of The Merlin Saga, will be one of the featured guests to celebrate the National Day on Writing at the Community College of Aurora (CCA) on Thursday, October 20, 2016 starting at 9:30 a.m. The college is located at 16000 E. CentreTech Parkway, Aurora, CO.

Walt Disney Studios is currently developing afilm adaptation of The Merlin Saga, based on the series of books by T.A. Barron. Also joining Barron at this event is Jeff Wheeler, fantasy writer and author of The Covenant of Muirwood Series; Raza Ali Hasan, professor and poet at the University of Colorado-Boulder; and Suzy Q. Smith, award-winning spoken word poet and former CCA student.

National Day on Writing was first established in 2009 and takes place each year on October 20. It is a celebration of the many ways writing can enrich our lives. This event is an opportunity for writers, students, and the public to learn more from these literary figures and gain a deeper appreciation for the art and science of writing.

“Over the years, many of my students have found a new interest and passion for something they never thought would matter to them after attending a session at our event,” said Susan Achziger, English faculty at CCA. “The very act of writing helps us make sense of the chaos in our world. Writing is cathartic – it heals.” Achziger, who coordinates the event every year for the college, expects more students will be engaged and motivated by attending the event.
