Fundamental steps for academic retention to be discussed at 'Parent Institute'

Parents of middle school and high school students interested on tips to keep their kids in school, more engaged in their education and on a path to college are invited to a ‘Parent Institute’ event at CCA on Feb. 28.
Registration will be held and pizza served from 5:30-6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building on the CentreTech campus, followed by a 75-minute panel discussion on affording college. Panelists will represent numerous schools, including CCA, and focus on a student’s college costs, availability of financial aid and scholarships, and present potential jobs and earnings information upon graduation.
A resource fair concludes the scheduled activities from 7:15-8 p.m. in the Student Centre Rotunda.
America’s Promise is sponsoring the event.  The national organization was founded on the idea of forging strong and effective partnerships with local alliances that attempt to ensure that children experience the fundamental resources they need to succeed at home, in school and in the community.
Keith Bailey of the City of Aurora heads the local alliance.
