Christopher Tombari, department chair for the Aurora Language Center, was named Community College of Aurora’s Faculty Member of the Year during a Jan. 22 ceremony on the CentreTech campus.
Tombari will be recognized by the State Board of Community Colleges at a special luncheon and awards ceremony Feb. 13.
Tombari has worked at CCA since 2009. His role encompasses oversight of two ESL programs – College Prep and Community. There are about 36 full-time and adjunct faculty under his guidance in both areas, which span basic, intermediate and advanced level students.
Tombari also teaches Grammar, Composition, and Reading.
Tombari joins three other CCA faculty for their outstanding achievements. In December, Tami Morrissey was named Exempt/Administrative Employee of the Year. Jamme Gonzales was cited as Classified Employee of the Year and Kris Andersen was given the Tom Brosh Award given to the college’s top adjunct.
Morrissey has worked at CCA for 19 years and currently serves as Assistant to the President. Her tenure spans three presidents and includes budget responsibilities, maintaining the executive calendar, and resolving pressing issues.
Gonzales’ job description is as a Pipe Mechanical Trades II but has a wide-ranging role in maintaining pipes, structures, HVAC and other responsibilities. He’s worked at CCA since November 2007.
Andersen is an Emergency Medical Services instructor in the Public Safety, Health Sciences and Legal Studies area who has worked at the college for 12 years. He also serves as a full-time captain with the Aurora Fire Department.
