Myra L. Rooney

I was born into a large, close family that moved a lot. I attended three high schools my senior year, making the traditional path to my college dream nearly impossible. I kept my impossible dream gripped tightly with certitude, held close to my heart, where dreams can’t die. I spent 21 years (and counting!) as a single mom, falling madly in love with my children, holding my college dream close as years passed. In 2015, I was diagnosed with two large brain tumors. Life (and death) got really real, really fast. With loved ones beside me, I survived brain surgery and radiation, lost my job (and my hair!), but gained the courage to finally pursue my dream of attaining a college degree. I started in August 2016 and will graduate in May 2018 from CCA with my associate degree in business. I will have tears in my eyes, a lump in my throat, loved ones around me, and gratitude in my heart. I want to thank Justin Lotspeich, Eduardo Garcia, my classmates, instructors, and CCA.
