2018 SPIRIT OF KING AWARD NOMINATION FORM

Each January, the Community College of Aurora brings together campus and community partners to commemorate and reflect on the legacy of one of the greatest Civil Rights leaders of the twentieth century, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We honor his dream and vision through a variety of events that embody his commitment to social justice, service, diversity, and civility.

 

The Spirit of King Award is presented and given at the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration. This year’s luncheon will take place on January 24th, 2018 from 12-1:30pm in the CTC Rotunda .This award is given to an individual in recognition of their commitment to leadership, education, advocacy, and community.

 

Award Criteria and eligibilty

Ideal candidates have demonstrated contributions to education, the Aurora community, and possess the following attributes of leadership:

 

  • Been an ally or advocate for others, and/or contributed to creating a more inclusive environment on campus and/or in the community.

 

  • Dedicated leader who shows a commitment to addressing critical issues and has taken risks for issues and concerns that are greater than self in the Aurora community.

 

  • Demonstrated commitment to empowering the Aurora community through the principles of social justice, service, diversity, and civility.

Submit nominations by January 17, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.

 

Recommendation statement (250 words or less in length) addressing why the candidate should receive this award using specific examples.  This may describe the candidate’s work in general, but should draw particular attention to the contributions that merit the award.
