SI: SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) program offers free, voluntary study sessions to all students enrolled in select sections English 1021 and Biology 1111

For more information, view the flyer here.

How Does it Work?

Students are encouraged to bring their official class schedule with them on the first day of class to fill out a short survey regarding their class schedule and availability. Their SI Leader will create a schedule based on student availability and share this with students at the next class session.

At each SI session, the Leader will guide the students through the most difficult course concepts with activities geared toward applying knowledge or study habits. SI Leaders will help students make better use of their time and share the strategies they used to be successful in the course, such as effective notetaking. SI Leaders will not re-lecture, give out copies of their own notes, help students with assigned homework, or encourage last minute test cramming. The overall goal of SI sessions is to incorporate a deeper understanding of course content with study skills that can be used with other coursework.

Students who attend SI sessions regularly throughout the semester report higher grades in the course and are less likely to withdraw from the course than students who do not.
